Pastor Matthew Bucher
Matthew grew up on a dairy farm in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. He loved playing baseball all the time and did his best to encourage his three sisters to pitch or play catcher. He graduated from Messiah College in 2006 with a B.A. in History and a Social Studies Teaching Certification. Following graduation, Matthew moved to Egypt. Volunteering in an Egyptian Orthodox diocese, Matthew studied Arabic and designed and taught in an adult-ESL program.
In September 2011, Matthew moved to Harrisonburg and enrolled in Eastern Mennonite University’s dual degree program towards a Master of Divinity and a Master of Arts in Conflict Transformation. During the four years of the two programs, Matthew presented and published on Egyptian Christianity and was selected as a 2012 Fund for Theological Education Fellow. In his free time, now that school is done, Matthew enjoys reading, speaking and studying Arabic, and playing badminton, tennis, and kubb.
